The North Carolina Zoo's Animal Health team is dedicated to advancing exceptional veterinary and nutritional care that supports the health, welfare, and conservation of more than 1,700 animals representing over 200 species. Our veterinarians, veterinary technicians, pathologists, clinical nutritionists, residents, and support staff work collaboratively with animal care professionals to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care tailored to the unique needs of each species.
Animal health encompasses far more than treating illness. Through preventive medicine, advanced diagnostics and surgery, clinical nutrition, disease surveillance, and routine health assessments, our team works to keep animals healthy throughout every stage of life. We also contribute to wildlife conservation, scientific research, and the training of future zoo and wildlife veterinarians. By integrating veterinary medicine, nutrition, and collaborative care, we help ensure every animal has the opportunity to thrive while supporting the North Carolina Zoo's mission to protect wildlife and inspire conservation.
