Some people say their workplace is a zoo, but ours really is! Seasonal opportunities are available for businesses, organizations, and service groups to volunteer together for a day of meaningful impact. Group volunteering at the North Carolina Zoo is a fun way to give back to the community, strengthen teamwork, build morale, and support conservation efforts, all while enjoying a unique behind-the-scenes experience.
Groups often assist with projects such as hiking trail maintenance, mulching, papier-mâché, animal enrichment projects, cleaning signage, painting, and special events. Projects are assigned on an as-needed basis and may change frequently throughout the year based on the needs of Zoo staff, giving your group a variety of ways to make a meaningful impact each time you volunteer.
- Group sizes vary by project, ranging from 3 to 25 participants. Each project has a minimum and maximum number of volunteers needed, so group capacity will depend on the specific project you select.
- Projects take place Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., September through June.
- Opportunities are scheduled based on availability and are open to adults.
- Groups that consist of high school students are welcome, but we are unable to accept entire high school classes.
- We are unable to provide projects for elementary or middle school students.
