Program Info For All Hikes:
- Cost is free, but registration is required for each participant
- Registration is through Eventbrite
- Registration does not include admission to the Zoo
- If registration is full, you can join the waitlist by emailing betsy.roznik@nczoo.org. Please include the program name, date, and number of participants. We will contact you if space becomes available.
Mountain Top Spider Search

Come kick off NC Spider Search Week with us! We will discover and learn about spiders and document our observations by submitting photos to iNaturalist to earn a cool one-of-kind spider patch! Our guided hike will take place at Ridges Mountain Nature Preserve, an offsite nature preserve managed by the North Carolina Zoo. The trail is a medium challenge 2-mile trek to the mountain top and back down. Must be ages 8+. Sign up here.

Join us at the North Carolina Zoo for a NC Spider Search! As we get closer to Halloween, learn about local spiders and how to submit your photos to iNaturalist to earn a cool one-of-kind spider patch! Our search begins at the Purgatory Mountain trailhead located on the north side of the North America parking lot. This hike is an easy to medium challenge 2-mile trek on rocky terrain.
