Funded entirely by gifts from the private sector made through the N.C. Zoological Society, the rehab center is under the supervision of N.C. Zoo's board certified zoo and exotic animal veterinarians. Injured and orphaned native wild animals are treated by veterinarians from N.C. Zoo/N.C. State's College of Veterinary Zoological Medicine Residency program.
State-of-the-art diagnostic procedures available on-site include:
laboratory studies
ultrasound
endoscopy
laparoscopy
radiography
A volunteer staff provides the routine daily care along with administering medications, doing physical therapy and performing treatments as ordered by the veterinary staff.Wild animals are cared for on-site until ready for release into their home territory when possible. Prior to release, animals are housed in spacious caging that meets or exceeds the standards recommended by the IWRC/NWRA and federal regulations.
