Giraffe Deck Volunteers
Applications received after May 15 will be kept on file for next year.
Time Commitments: Volunteers are especially needed weekends, holidays and days with high school group visitation. Volunteers must be willing to serve a minimum of two scheduled shifts each month, April – October, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Weekday shifts are limited to one Volunteer per day.
Required Skills: Experience in animal care is helpful.
- Good customer service skills with Volunteers being comfortable initiating interactions with visitors of all ages and queuing and directing visitors on and off the deck.
- Standing for long periods of time and able to tolerate temperature extremes
- Ability to follow direction
- Careful and appropriate interactions with giraffe
Training: On the job training will be provided by the giraffe deck keepers and/or the giraffe supervisor(s). This will include the customer service aspect of the position as well as appropriate interactions with giraffes.
Benefits: This can be an extremely rewarding volunteer experience. Not only will you share in the joy of visitors having a rare close up animal encounter, Volunteers will earn the privilege of interacting with and feeding the giraffe on a frequent basis.
