Picnicking
The N.C. Zoo has designated free public picnic areas located outside the ticket booths in the Akiba Market (Africa) and North America Plaza. Both sites have shaded picnic tables and offer lovely lakeside views. Please remember to have your hand stamped or use your admission receipt to leave and re-enter the Park. See Park Map.
Africa picnic site: there’s lots of room for kids to run and play. Restrooms are located very close to the picnic tables.North America picnic site: you can park your car closer to the picnic tables. There is a three to five minute walk to restrooms.
The Zoo does not allow personal food or coolers inside the Zoo due to animal welfare. Grilling is not allowed. Lockers are located near the admission booths for storage.
Picnic Rentals and Catering
The N.C. Zoo has designated rental picnic areas located inside the Park. To plan your group picnic, select from several locations, choose your catered menu and reserve online. The natural setting of the Zoo enhances any gathering or special event.
