Surrounded by an Alaskan meadow, N.C. Zoo’s RJR Nabisco Rocky Coast is home to polar bears, arctic foxes, pinnepeds and seabirds. Climb inside a polar bear den or compete in a breath-holding contest with a seal! Visitors explore this majestic biome, learn about ocean connections and discover positive ways to impact the environment.

Ecosystem: Stretching from Alaska to California, North America's Rocky Coast is one of the continent's most spectacular and dynamic natural areas. The combination of the Pacific Ocean and the dramatic cliffs, ancient forests, and expanses of pack ice that rim the shoreline make for a varied community of plants and animals that have adapted to life in a place influenced by both land and sea.
