Garden Friends playscape

The 5,625-square-foot play area transforms gigantic sculptures of bugs, leaves, flowers and insects into slides, climbing configurations, swings and other play structures for children. N.C. Zoo opened the Garden Friends Playscape in August 2002.

In 2004, the playscape was dedicated to Pat Burkart, a long-time friend of N.C. Zoo and Zoo Society. Burkart has been involved in Zoo To Do since its start and has served the Society through volunteer positions, including president of Randolph Friends of the Zoo and co-chairperson of Zoo To Do.
