BB&T Kitera Forest Chimpanzee reserve houses an African ranger station and education center. Our chimpanzee troop inhabits a replicated tropical old growth forest. Large trees, thick vegetation and tall termite mounds characterize this ecosystem. Visitors can observe, or be observed, by a chimpanzee community while learning more about threats to African forests and wildlife.
On Exhibit: Chimpanzee
Ecosystem: Tropical Forest - Teeming with biodiversity, tropical forests contain a variety of vegetation, ranging from old growth trees to dense shrubs and foliage. Rainforests, bamboo forests, and montane forests provide vital habitat and food for African wildlife. Logging removes trees and poaching empties these forests of magnificent animals like the great apes, changing these ecosystems forever.
