Forest Glade

Thick vegetation surrounds the Forest Glade. This half-acre outdoor exhibit resembles the dense clearings where gorillas gather to forage for food.

Dominated by low and medium-height plants and large boulders to rest upon, the forest glade exhibit simulates the lowland tropical forest clearings these primates prefer. Plant diversity is extremely high in this exhibit, including large trees, bamboo, bananas and more. Dense vegetation provides cover and a constant food source for these large herbivores.

On Exhibit: Gorillas, Baboons

Ecosystem: Tropical Forest - Dense, lowland tropical forest clearings offer suitable habitat for large apes like the western lowland gorilla. Intense sunlight and moist conditions allow thick vegetation to flourish in the clearings, providing a rich diet for forest wildlife. Overwhelmingly productive, tropical forests are invaluable ecosystems threatened by human development, agriculture and civil unrest.
