Wildlife from East Africa awaits you at the Forest Edge. Observe our Giraffes, zebras, and ostriches as they meander through 3.5 acres similar to Kenya's savannas.
The forest edge habitat exhibits animals living in a lightly wooded ecotone habitat. These animals coexist at N.C. Zoo and in the wild without competition for food or resources. Giraffes prefer top-growing vegetation while zebras feed on short, young grasses. Ostriches eat a wide variety of medium-height vegetation.
On Exhibit: Giraffe, Ostrich, Zebra
Ecosystem: Along the edges of ecosystems exist unique ecotone habitats. The margins that buffer the divide between grasslands and forests host a wide variety of animals. Ecotones hold a great deal of biodiversity because they provide food and cover for many grassland and migrating animals
