Edventures at the Zoo


On Site Programs

2017-2018 school year program registrations begin at the end of August.

EDventures at the Zoo are fully booked through December.

Looking for a wild experience for your students?  The NC Zoo offers a variety of engaging education programs for school groups visiting the Zoo. These programs enrich student learning about animals, the need for healthy habitats, and the actions they can take to help protect and preserve Earth’s precious natural resources.

EDventures at the Zoo programs last 30 - 45 minutes and cost $60 each. These programs are designed for a maximum of 30 students.
   
The following programs are available:

GENTLE GIANTS OF THE FOREST
Audience: Kindergarten - 5th Grade

Gorillas are the largest of all great apes and may appear to be scary. In reality, they are some of the most peaceful animals in the tropical forest.  Explore the Forest Glade gorilla habitat and learn about the special features and social structure of these gentle giants, their unique adaptations and the role the NC Zoo is taking in helping to protect these amazing animals.

KITERA EXPLORATIONS: A WILD LOOK AT CHIMPANZEES
Audience: Kindergarten - 8th Grade

Come explore the Kitera Forest chimpanzee habitat and see the members of one of the largest chimpanzee troops of any United States zoo.  Learn about chimpanzee behavior, how they communicate and the current status of this remarkable species in the wild.

TREKKING THROUGH A TROPICAL FOREST
Audience: Kindergarten - 8th Grade

Learn about the importance of healthy tropical forest habitats and the bountiful resources they provide while visiting the Zoo's Forest Aviary.  Make your way through the tropical forest and the Zoo's Forest Aviary and uncover animals like flamingos, poison dart frogs and tropical birds.

 
WATANI WONDERS: ALL ABOUT ELEPHANTS AND RHINOS
Audience: Kindergarten - 8th Grade

Elephants and rhinos are some of the most popular animals at the North Carolina Zoo.  This program is given at the Watani Grasslands Reserve which is one of the largest habitats at the Zoo.  Students will have the opportunity to see what makes African elephants and Southern White rhinoceroses so remarkable.

OUR ROCKY COAST
Audience: Kindergarten - 12th Grade

How can you tell if it’s a seal or sea lion? How do Polar Bears stay warm? Learn about the animals that call our Rocky Coast habitat home.

SCHEDULING A PROGRAM...

2017-2018 school year program registrations begin at the end of August.

EDventures at the Zoo programs are offered subject to availability. The NC Zoo requires a minimum of two weeks notice for any programs. Full payment is required a minimum of one week prior to the scheduled program date.
