Great Apes
September 22 & 23, 2012
11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Kitera Forest and Forest Glade exhibits
Don’t miss this event dedicated to the chimpanzees and gorillas at the North Carolina Zoo. Kid-favorite activities include making a gorilla nest, "foraging" for food and talking one-on-one with a chimpanzee or gorilla keeper. Learn about these endangered apes and how you can help their wild cousins.
Q: How can you tell the difference between a great ape and a monkey?
A: Apes do not have tails - monkeys do. (So chimpanzees and gorillas are not monkeys.)
Strong facts!
The upper body strength of an adult gorilla or chimpanzee is estimated to be six to eight times more powerful than an adult human.
Did you know?
Although chimps and gorillas usually walk on their knuckles while on the ground, they can also walk on two legs like humans.
