June Bugs (for 4 – 5 year olds) at the North Carolina Zoo introduces you and your child to the wonders of the natural world with stories, crafts and fun activities. Each program is 60 minutes long and will take place at zoo exhibits. Admission to the zoo is not included in program fees. Each program session costs $5.00 ($4.00 for zoo members) and class size is limited to 10. Registration begins April 1, 2008 and closes the Friday before the scheduled program. Information will be taken by phone or e-mail and checks should be received within one week of registration. Please make checks payable to NC Zoo Society and mail to NC Zoo Camps, 4401 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro NC, 27205. Please include your child’s name and “June Bugs” in the memo line on your check.
DIGGING INTO DESERTS
Story: Around One Cactus

Location: Outside the Desert Exhibit
Description: Learn all about the amazing wildlife of the Sonoran Desert. This program will introduce children to the animals and plants of the desert through a story, animal craft, games and a visit to the exhibit.
SUMMER SAFARI ADVENTURE
Story: We All Went on Safari
Date: Tuesday, June 17
Time: 10:00am
Location: The Watani Grasslands Exhibit
Description: Everyone is invited to join a group of friends as they adventure through the African Savanna on Safari. The program introduces children to Swahili counting and animal names through fun interactive story, games and animal crafts.

Story: Animals Should Definietly Not Wear Clothing

Description: Using their senses, students will explore various animal coverings, learn why they are important and begin to see why animals should definitely not wear clothing.
WATCHING FOR WINGS
Story: Waiting for Wings
Date: Tuesday, July 1

Location: KidZone Butterfly Garden
Description: Come and explore the life and adventures of butterflies in the zoo’s own butterfly garden. This program will introduce students to the wild world of wings through story, drama, games and crafts. Children will make their own colorful butterfly to take home.
WETLAND WONDERS
Story: Near One Cattail
Date: Tuesday, August 5
Time: 10:00am
Location: North American Wetland Boardwalk, under North American Bridge.
Description: Who lives in a wetland? In this program, children are introduced to the many creatures that call the wetlands home through story, crafts, games and a hands-on marsh-dipping excursion.
ARCTIC ADVENTURE
Story: Far North in the Arctic – Counting Alaska’s Animals
Date: Tuesday, August 5
Time: 10:00am
Location: Underground Polar Bear Viewing
Description: Cool off with our creatures from the North. This program will introduce children to the animals of the Arctic as we find out how polar bears keep warm in frosty waters.
