Zoo Programs

Students will learn about animals, the need for healthy habitats and actions they can take to help protect and preserve the Earth’s precious natural resources.

Audience Program Description

K-1st Grade

Animal Wrappers
Exploring the Zoo's Desert exhibit, students learn how the 'coverings' of birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals perform some of the same services as human clothing. The program helps children understand the importance of caring for wildlife and backyard habitat.

 

2nd -8th  Grade

There's a Tropical Forest in My House
Students learn about the significance of healthy tropical forest habitats and their ties to the bountiful resources of the world’s tropical forests while visiting the Zoo’s RJ Reynolds Forest Aviary. Program focus is on the importance of preserving the world’s forests.

 

2nd -8th Grade

Our Rocky Coasts
Travel through our Rocky Coast exhibit as we learn more about this amazing ecosystem and the life it supports.

 

4th  – 8th Grade

A Wild Look at Chimpanzees
Take a closer look at our Chimp Troupe and discover the things that scientists have learned about these endangered animals, and ways we can help make a difference.

 

2nd -8th Grade

We All Live Downstream
While exploring the Zoo's Streamside exhibit, students gain knowledge concerning the value of clean water to all life on Earth. As connections are made between human land-use practices and water quality, students are encouraged to take actions that preserve and protect water resources.

 

9-12 Years of Age

' Zoo Snooze’ Overnight Experiences for Children
Looking for a fun educational experience for your group? A zoo snooze is just the thing for you.
The NC Zoo offers three exciting overnight programs to engage your brain, entertain your senses, and enhance your environmental awareness.

 

Older Students

Special programming may be available upon request.

Cost

$50 each 1-hour session (30 students max)
