Dr. Stephen Miller - Director

Dr. Stephen Miller is the General Curator of the North Carolina Zoological Park.
He holds degrees in Veterinary Medicine, Marine Biology, and Underwater Technology, and has completed additional training in zoo, wildlife, and aquatic animal medicine. He moved to Asheboro from New Orleans, Louisiana where he resided since 1985.
Dr. Miller was the Senior Veterinarian for the Audubon Institute Aquarium of the Americas. His focus was primarily Aquatic Animal Medicine, although he has experience with a wide range of exotic animal species. He was also the director of the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle rescue program, owned Exotic Animal Consultants, and was involved in multiple conservation and research efforts.
Miller provided veterinary support with a team of four other veterinarians to the Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species and Species Survival Center. The team collaborated with over 60 other scientists and focused on developing assisted reproductive techniques with endangered animals. Miller also partnered with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Mote Marine Laboratory, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Sea Turtle Hospital, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Service.
Dr. Miller is delighted to be a part of the North Carolina Zoological Park and plans to continue his conservation efforts in North Carolina.
