You are here: Home : About the Zoo : Mission & Vision
To encourage understanding of and commitment to the conservation of the worlds wildlife and wild places through the recognition of the interdependence of people and nature. We will do this by creating a sense of enjoyment, wonder and discovery throughout the Park and in our outreach programs.
N.C. Zoo will be the most attractive and relevant place on the eastern side of the United States connecting people with their natural environment. Our living collections, exhibits and programs, including the Earth Resources Center, and all our outreach activities, will present conservation and environmental stewardship in the most interesting, meaningful, and entertaining way. While the Park will always be the headquarters and focus of much of our activity, our outreach programs will extend to all citizens of North Carolina and will have an impact on people's thinking and actions both locally andglobally.
N.C. Zoo is committed to engaging the largest number of people possible, enabling them through a better knowledge and understanding to develop the motivation and skills to make informed choices about their lives in relation to the wise use of the natural resources around them. N.C. Zoo will fulfill this commitment by communicating and sharing our knowledge, skills, enthusiasm, understanding and practical experience. We will use our unique physical and biological resources, the Park's natural landscape, its built environment and our living animals and plants to realize that goal.
