Terry D. Webb
Curator of Mammals
Terry Webb is a native of North Carolina and was born and raised in Hickory. He is a veteran of the US Air Force.
Terry has served as the North Carolina Zoo’s Curator of Mammals since March 2008. He worked at the N.C. Zoo previously as a Keeper III from 1999 to 2001. A graduate of N.C. State University and De Paul University in Chicago, his focus in captive animal care has been with mammals and conservation in a captive setting.
Before working at the N.C. Zoo, Terry worked at three other zoos as a keeper, supervisor, and most recently as the Curator of Mammals at the Miami MetroZoo. Terry manages the mammals in seven exhibit areas at the N.C. Zoo, including chimpanzee, gorilla, giraffe/zebra, lion, African Pavilion mammals, seal/sea lion and polar bear.
Terry serves on the steering committee of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums’ giraffe and antelope advisory group and is a member of the otter specialist group. He attended an international colloquium in 2007 in South Korea that looked at conservation and research with all 13 otter species. Terry has also worked in Central and South America as a consultant on zoo design and completed the importation and exportation of captive animals between zoos there and the U.S.
