ZooFLING Weekends Continue With 'Earth Day'

ASHEBORO – With fun and entertainment each weekend in April, the North Carolina Zoo continues its ZooFLING 2010 celebration with “Earth Day” Saturday & Sunday, April 17 & 18.
During the “party for the planet,” visitors will learn about the zoo’s conservation efforts and green practices and can take part in educational family fun.
Saturday’s entertainment throughout the park will include Radio Disney, Music Explorium crafts, Designs in Nature, Bowling for Rhinos and Polar Bear International.
On both Saturday and Sunday, singer and guitarist Pamlico Joe will perform his show in the Junction Plaza at 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.
Saturday’s activities will include a can/bottle exchange and Randolph Telephone cell-phone recycling. “kidZone” play and discovery area will host Earth Day activities from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Guest environmental exhibitors will be located throughout the park, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. They will include: N.C. Big Sweep, N.C. Division of Forest Resources, the Windstar Foundation, AAZK Bowling for Rhinos, Piedmont Triad Council of Governments, Storm Water Smart Program, Asheboro High School Zoo School, Piedmont-Triad Regional Water Authority, Randolph Telephone, Asheboro Recycling Center, PART-Piedmont SMART Commute and Asheboro Water Resources Division.
A limited number of free tree seedlings will be available to departing guests at the North America exit Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
ZooFLING 2010 wraps up Saturday, April 24, as the park holds its “Creature Comforts” celebration, when visitors can meet the keepers and learn about animal enrichment.
All the weekend fun takes place during regular zoo hours of 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is included in the regular zoo admission of $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62+) and $6 for children (ages 2-12).
Coca-Cola is the signature sponsor for all zoo special events, and Wal-Mart is the special-event sponsor for ZooFLING.
