Oct. 29, 2010

Beginning Monday, Nov. 1, the North Carolina Zoo will begin its winter operating hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with ticket sales ending at 3 p.m.

Additionally, operating hours for the park’s Endangered Species Carousel and 4-D Adventure Theater will also change to 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and operate daily through November. Both the carousel and 4-D theater will close for the season on Wednesday, Dec. 1, and re-open in spring 2011.

Also beginning Monday, Nov. 1, the zoo’s Africa entrance (admission gates), parking lot and shuttle service will operate only on weekends and on the two-day Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 25 & 26. Akiba Market (Africa Plaza) will remain open and will be accessible from inside the zoo daily during the park’s normal operating hours.

The Africa entrance, parking lot and shuttle service will then close for the season on Wednesday, Dec. 1, and re-open in the spring. However, the zoo will remain open throughout the year, closing only on Christmas Day. Visitors can continue to see all zoo exhibits by entering through the North America entrance.

After Dec.1, the Akiba Market will remain open with limited retail and food service and will still be accessible from inside the zoo. All Africa Region exhibits will remain accessible through the North America entrance.

Acacia Station, the giraffe encounter deck, will close for the season on Sunday, Oct. 31, and re-open in spring 2011.
