Zoo's African Pavilion Closes for Renovations

BY: Rod Hackney
Feb. 20, 2009

ASHEBORO — One of the North Carolina Zoo's African exhibits, the indoor African Pavilion, will be closing for up to two weeks for repairs and improvements beginning Monday, February 23.

During the shutdown, contractors will repair the ceiling in the Pavilion’s upper entrance and modify some exhibits to accommodate new educational programs for kids. Zoo staff will also be installing children’s games in some areas. The work cannot be accomplished while visitors are in the building.

All other animal exhibits in both the African and North American regions will remain open during the Pavilion improvement work, weather permitting.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment & Natural Resources, Dee Freeman, Secretary; Beverly Eaves Perdue, Governor.
