WEEKEND ZOO FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS AFRICAN CULTURE

ASHEBORO, N.C.—The North Carolina Zoo will hold its second October ZooFEST 2008 event Saturday, Oct. 11, featuring African art, dance,
music and mystery in a celebration of African culture and heritage.
The Healing Force will perform music and storytelling in the Africa entrance plaza at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Sugarfoote Productions will perform African drums and dancing at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., also in the Africa plaza, and storyteller Fred Motley will spin yarns from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Watani Grasslands Reserve.
Additionally, keepers will place a paper mache` ostrich--specially made by zoo volunteers--in the lion exhibit for the animals’ enrichment at 11:30 a.m.
Family entertainment will continue at the N.C. Zoo in upcoming Saturdays in October as part of ZooFEST 2008. On Saturday, Oct. 18, Howl-O-Ween will kick off a celebration of Wolf Awareness with educational activities throughout the park, face painting, wolf-howling contests and opportunities for visitors to meet keepers. Saturday’s activities will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
On both Saturday, Oct.25, & Sunday, Oct. 26, the zoo will come alive with its annual Boo at the Zoo, featuring two magical days of family entertainment with games, treats, costume parades and contests each day. This two-day activity runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. All the weekend fun takes place during regular zoo hours of 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is included in the regular zoo admission of $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62+) and $6 for children (ages 2-12).
