Kick off with Native American celebration Oct. 4
ASHEBORO, N.C. – With fun and entertainment each weekend—from celebrating Native American culture to Halloween costumes—the North Carolina Zoo will offer something for everyone throughout the month of October during ZooFest 2008.
The merriment kicks off Saturday, Oct. 4, with Native American art, dance, music and story-telling. Colorful displays of various Native American cultures will fill the North America Plaza and Junction Plaza from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Also featured in the North America Plaza will be fancy dancing, singing on the hand drum, storytelling and corn-doll making.
Junction Plaza, in the center of the park, will feature a Pow Wow with demonstrations of traditional, jingle, grass and fancy dancing, and a presentation of hoop dancing. Also at the Plaza, the Bo Goins Drum Group will perform, and Native American art will be on display.
In upcoming Saturdays, Oct. 11 will feature African art, dance and music; Oct. 18, Howl-O-Ween, will kick off a week-long celebration of Wolf Awareness Week with educational activities throughout the park, face painting, wolf-howling contests and opportunities for visitors to meet keepers. These activities will also run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
On both Saturday, Oct.25 & Sunday, Oct. 26, the zoo will come alive with its annual Boo at the Zoo, featuring a magical day of family entertainment with games, treats, costume parades and contests each day. This two-day activity runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.
All the weekend fun takes place during regular zoo hours of 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is included in the regular zoo admission of $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62+) and $6 for children (ages 2-12).
