BY: Tom GillespieMay. 08, 2008
ASHEBORO, N.C.—As part of International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) held annually across the nation and to highlight the park’s more than 40,000 plants, the North Carolina Zoo will celebrate “Birds & Blooms” Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Additionally, on Sunday, May 11, in celebration of Mother’s Day, all moms who present a printable online coupon will receive $2 off the general zoo admission with one paid general admission. The coupons can be found on the zoo’s Web site (http://www.nczoo.org) and are valid May 11 only.
Saturday’s events begin at 10 a.m. and are designed to encourage visitors to help all birds, including migratory birds.
Activities will include scavenger hunts at both Junction Plaza and the Forest Aviary exhibit; demonstrations on how to make pinecone birdfeeders; and bird watching, in which visitors try to spot as many different birds as possible.
Events will include an IMBD information table “From Tundra to Tropics” and Eco-OK Crops, a presentation that allows visitors to sample shade-grown coffee.
In addition, Gary Lewis and the “Swing On” band will perform in Junction Plaza on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Also, Radio Disney will be in the North America Plaza from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The zoo’s seasonal event sponsor is Pepsi.
The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, William G. Ross Jr., Secretary; Michael F. Easley, Governor.
