Zoo To You EDventures  

Classroom Zoo To You EDventures

This education program is designed for groups of less than 30 students. These programs are designed to stimulate curiosity about animals and the habitats, and encourage respect for the natural world.  Up to four programs per day can be scheduled at one location.  The N.C. Zoo requires a minimum of two weeks notice for any Zoo To You programs. 

Zoo To You Edventures cost $75 per program.  We can travel to schools located up to 100 miles from the Zoo.  For locations outside a 25 mile radius of the N.C. Zoo, an additional charge of $.45 per mile, round trip will be added.  Onsite programs cost $50. 

Full payment is required a minimum of one week prior to the scheduled program date.  

**Zoo To You Edventures reservations, for the 2011 calendar year, are no longer being accepted.  Please contact the School Programs Office in January 2012 to schedule a winter or spring program.

Program Description

Kindergarten

ANIMAL WRAPPERS

Using their senses, students will explore various animal coverings, learn why they are important and begin to see why animals should definitely not wear clothing.
1st Grade

WILD SURVIVORS

Living in the wild, animals face challenges every day - finding food, water and shelter; catching prey or avoiding predators; and adapting to changing environments.  An animal's habitat, or home, supplies all the things it needs to survive.  Learn about different animals and what it takes to be a survivor in the wild.

2nd Grade

FROM EGGS TO LEGS

How does a caterpillar go? From eggs to legs to wings!  Explore the life cycles of different animals including insects and amphibians.  Investigate the changes the animals go through and discover how they are similar and different.

3rd Grade

BATS, BEES AND BIRDS

Insects, hummingbirds and bats.  Oh my!  Catch the buzz and find out how animals help plants with pollination and why pollination is important to us.

4th Grade

AMAZING ADAPTATIONS

Whether flying in the sky or hiding from the heat, plants and animals adapt to their environment in many ways.  Learn about the creature features and behaviors that connect animals to their wild worlds.

5th Grade

EXPLORING EARTH'S BIOMES

It's a trip around the world and you're invited.  Join us as we explore Earth's biomes.  Learn about biomes, where in the world they are found, and the plants and animals that live in each one.

6th Grade

REAL LIFE ALIENS

Warning! Warning! The aliens are coming.  These aliens are not from outer space.  They are born and bred right here on planet Earth.  This program has been designed to introduce students to non-native, or alien, species and the effect that they have on our ecosystems.

7th Grade

BONE DETECTIVES

Can you solve the mystery?  Bones tell us many things about animals.  Explore the bones and skulls of various animals to discover how they move, what they eat and how big they are.  Learn why bones are valuable to scientific research.

8th Grade

CHANGING CLIMATE - CHANGING PLANET

Is our climate changing?  Examine evidence from Earth's polar regions and investigate the impact that global warming is having on the ecosystems and our planet.

2nd Grade and above

RECYCLE WITH WORMS

Worms offer an environmentally sound solution to solid waste problems.  Students discover ways to turn kitchen scraps and old newspapers into valuable soil for growing flowers and vegetables.  For and additional $10 your students can cooperatively make a worm bin for your classroom.

3rd-6th Grade

BIODIVERSITY BASICS

Biodiversity is life!  It is short for 'biological diversity' and refers to all life on Earth.  Learn about the amazing variety of life on Earth and why this diversity is so important to us.  Includes a live animal presentation.

4th Grade and above

PEOPLE AND THE PLANET

Within nature, all things are connected.  Students gain an awareness of how human population growth affects the Earth's resources and what they can do to help.

8th Grade and above

BIODIESEL 101

This program provides a closer look at biodiesel as an alternative fuel.  Depending on your group, the program will take a chemistry or environmental science perspective.
