Zoo Club Off-site Programs

Offsite school programs at the NC ZooThe Zoo’s Education Staff will visit your Zoo Club home school group two times per year for a one hour off-site program: you provide the venue. One program will take place in Fall (September, October, November) and one program in the Spring (March, April, May).  At the time of registration, you will be required to select your program dates and the topic for each of your programs. Program information is provided below.

AMAZING ADAPTATIONS (4 lesson series)

Suggested Audience: Grades K - 8

This topic is a series of programs and requires all four Zoo Club sessions (onsite and offsite). Explore the different habitats that animals call home and learn about the creature features and behaviors that connect animals to their wild worlds.

BIODIVERSITY BASICS (4 lesson series)
Suggested Audience: Grades K - 8

This topic is a series of programs and requires all four Zoo Club sessions (onsite and offsite). Explore the amazing variety of life found on Earth as we discover how everything is connected and why diversity is important to us.

COOL CRITTERS
Suggested Audience: Grades K - 8

Learn about the best of the best…the all stars of the animal kingdom; as we learn about the fastest and slowest, largest and smallest, coolest and grossest critters on planet Earth.

ASI - Animal Scene Investigation
Suggested Audience: Grades K - 8
   
Using all of our senses, we will take a closer look at animal signs. They tell us what animals have been doing, where they’ve been doing it, and how to tell they’ve been there. Get down and dirty discovering the natural world around us.
   

CAROLINA’S COOLEST
Suggested Audience: Grades 2 - 8

Onsite school programs at the NC ZooScreech Owls, and Bobcats, and Snakes, OH MY! Learn about the many different animals found right here in North Carolina and in our very own backyard! We’ll explore where their homes are and how they live there. Meet one of our native education ambassadors.

THE SCOOP ON POOP
Suggested Audience: Grades 2 - 8

Can you guess how much an African Elephant poops each day? Have you ever wondered what happens to all of that "zoo doo"? Animal scat is known by many different names and can in fact be very useful. This program will  leave you totally pooped at the end of the day.

SCUTES, SCALES & SLIPPERY SKIN
Suggested Audience: Grades K - 8

Slither and slide your way into the secretive world of reptiles and amphibians. Discover the differences between these animals and what they can tell us about our environment. Meet an animal ambassador from our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and discover some of the amazing adaptations these sleek, scaly critters possess.    
   
DOWN THE HATCH
Suggested Audience: Grades 2 - 8

Have you ever wondered what animals eat at the Zoo? During this program we will investigate animal appetites and learn about what gets eaten, how much gets eaten and where it all comes from.

THE THREE BEARS
Suggested Audience: Grades K - 8

This program introduces your students to the "Three Bears" of North America. We will investigate some of the bear essentials for these animals and their habitats.

PEOPLE AND THE PLANET
Suggested Audience: Grades 2 - 8

Within nature, all things are connected! Students gain an awareness of how human population growth affects the Earth’s resources and what they can do to help.
   
WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE
Suggested Audience: Grades K - 8

Don’t be a drip when it comes to Earth’s most valuable resource. From a drop to a splash, we’ll explore the many ways that animals at the Zoo use water, and why it is important to us.
